My friend Danielle is expecting a baby boy in a few weeks.  I am so excited for her.  She and Daniel are going to be wonderful parents.

Kids Can Say Funny Things

I was in line at the grocery store.  Mason and Miles were with me.  Miles (in a not so quiet voice) was commenting on everything the lady in front of us was buying.  She turned around and started chatting with Miles.  Then Miles says to the lady, "Are you going to have a baby?"  She had this half confused and half mortified look on her face.  She mumbled something about she was a little too old to have a baby.  I decided I couldn't just act like I didn't hear his comment so I explained to her that I was pregnant and two of his aunts were pregnant so he probably is starting to wonder if everyone is going to have a baby.  And I am starting to wonder how many other people have been asked that question by my kids :-)

Garage Sale '08

Dsc_0237

We had a very successful garage sale today.  As Erick was hanging up signs for the sale these two ladies pushed on the brakes and swerved their van around and found me.  They bought about a third of our stuff.  They must have been at our place for over an hour!  One of those ladies had to call her husband to bring his truck because they couldn't fit it all in their van :-)  And those two ladies kept coming back!  They were so funny. During the first hour of business the driveway was packed with people.  Cars were parked in the middle of the street blocking traffic.  It was crazy.  We even got a visit from the Avilas.  We made them take some of our junk.

I didn't realize that Erick was hiding in the garage taking pictures of me.  It is kind of amusing because every picture he took I have one hand on my "money bag" and the same intense face!  And yes, I did make it through the day without yelling at any of our customers  :-)

Clean Sweep

Cleansweep_2 Have you ever seen that show "Clean Sweep" on TLC?  It is one of my favorites.  It shows people living in an insane amount of clutter, collectibles, and unused stuff.  So much stuff that they can't even live safely in their houses.  The hosts of the show get all psychological with the home owners and talk about their unhealthy attachment to "stuff".  They end up selling tons of junk and get their house remodeled in exchange.  BTY:  Desiring God blog had a good post today about where your treasures are.

"Clean Sweep" has come to the Cobb's house this week.  Well not exactly.  We didn't get the TV show at our house but we are preparing for the biggest Cobb garage sale ever!  We do this every year but I think this year it might be our largest sale.  All week I have been piling stuff in the garage for Saturday.  It is unbelievable how much extra stuff we have that we have not used in years!   The boys are going to stay at Grandma Kristie's because a large portion of the stuff for sale are their toys!  The last time when we tried to sell their old toys, Mason and Miles kept crying when someone tried to buy their stuff.  It was sad and really hurt our sales profit that year.  We are not going to do that again!

I am very excited to get rid of all this stuff but am also intimated by some of these garage sale shoppers.  Every year we get mobbed by people.  One year Erick went and put signs up early in the morning and I opened the garage door to bring the stuff out and there was already a crowd forming in front of our house!  They can be tricky people.  They will all start yelling and grabbing me at the same time.  They try to buy something for 50 cents with a 50 dollar bill and try to take all my change!  If they don't like my price they will go ask Erick if he can give them a better deal.  Some of these people are overwhelming!!  Erick and I are in a battle right now on who has to do the selling.  I always have done it but I think it is time for him to do it.  I told him I might go nuts and start yelling at the shoppers this year (this new seizure medicine has tons of side effects and hostility is one of them!).  So, if you are in need of children's clothes or toys stop by and I will try hard to be pleasant :-)

Garage Sitting With The Neighbors

Dsc_0225

Mason, Miles, and Jackson

I think garage sitting might be a Riverside county thing because I don't remember seeing too many people doing this in San Diego or Davis.  But it seems like the thing to do here in this area.  So we have taken up this custom and have been able to get to know some of our neighbors better.  We finally got our garage door fixed by the "garage door master" and we are back outside just in time for the hot weather.  It was 100 degrees yesterday!!

13 weeks - Baby Update

13_weeks_3 I am now 13 weeks pregnant.  I saw the doctor yesterday and I got to hear the baby's heart beat.  I also had an ultrasound.  The baby has really grown a lot since the last visit.  It was amazing!  I could see the baby's legs, feet, and arms moving around.  On the ultrasound it looked like the baby was dancing.  Everything looked good.  In 5 weeks I have another ultrasound where they look at all the baby's anatomy and organs.  We are also going to find out at that visit if it we will be having a boy or girl.  I think I am already feeling the baby move around.  Each pregnancy I am able to feel the baby move earlier.  It is the most incredible feeling!

I am nesting like crazy!  I moved all the sofas around downstairs.  I am trying to tackle the bookcase too.  Erick's books are multiplying like rabbits.  We need more book self space!  Bo and Jake came and installed wood floors in the boy's room.  It is so nice and has a great clean feel to it.  My poor husband.  I put him flat on his back earlier this week from all the furniture moving.  He had to disassemble the two sets of bunk beds, move them into the boy's new room, then reassemble the bunk beds, and then disassemble one of the bunk beds (again) because the room was too crowded.  The boys love sharing a room.  They sleep much better when they are together.  I moved most of their toys into the extra bedroom and made it a playroom.  Then Erick had to take the crib apart and move it into the new baby's room and reassemble it.  I have so much more that I want to get done but I think I need to let Erick's back rest.

Stuff Cobbs Like #23: IN-N-OUT Burger

Innout_burger_2I am not ashamed or too elitist to admit that I like fast food. I think this is my second post on a fast food restaurant.  IN-N-OUT Burger is definitely up high on my list.  I am a far cry from an all organic, Birkenstock wearing vegan.  Well until this pregnancy...  I am the closest I have ever been to being a vegetarian.  I heard that vegetarians crave meat during pregnancy but I have the opposite situation.  Typically I love red meat.  I get excited about a nice juicy filet mignon or some tasty carne asada.  But in the past 8 weeks I think I have eaten meat about 3 times.  During this pregnancy, anything with any flavor or smell has become repulsive to me!  I can't stand to eat any of my favorite foods. The last eight weeks I lived on the "all carb" diet.  The only thing I could eat with out gagging was crackers or cereal. Yuck!!!  But alas, food is starting to look better this last week.  I have had the most intense food aversions and cravings during this pregnancy.  Like on Wednesday I had to have a Hot Dog on a Stick.  That was the only thing that sounded edible.  The thought of eating anything else made me nauseous.  But the next day the thought of Hot Dog on a Stick made me nauseous!  Today was my lucky day.  I was craving a IN-N-OUT burger.  I was not about to let that chance pass me by!  I have only had meat about 3 times the past 2 months, now was my opportunity to get some protein!  Oh it was delicious.  Just like I remembered it.  But I have a feeling that tomorrow will be a different day so I didn't put a picture of their yummy burgers on this post in fear that the sight of it might revoke nausea.  I realize that IN-N-OUT deserves a much better post than this, but this is what is going on in my head right now.   IN-N-OUT is absolutely delicious and I am trying to be thankful for this nausea.  It is usually a sign the the pregnancy is progressing well.  But hopefully it won't last the whole pregnancy like poor Carmine had!!!

Wise Words For Moms

Wisewordscover_4I picked up Ginger Plowman's Wise Words for Moms the other day.  This is a handy cart with great scripture references for speaking wisdom to your children.  There are some great heart probing questions to ask your kids.  There are bible verses to teach your little ones (and yourself) how to "put off" sinful behavior and how to "put on" righteous behavior.

"You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires, to be made new in the attitudes of your minds, and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."  Ephesians 4:22-23Dont_make_me_count_to_3_2

I wish I had this chart years ago.  Anyways, I recommend it to all you mamas.  I have read Plowman's book "Don't Make Me Count to Three" a few times (I am slow learner).  She is fun to read, practical, and is also serious about getting to the heart of the child's behavior (and also the mom's heart during correction).  I loved it and also recommend it.

Big_thoughts_2One more recommendation for you mommies.  I heard about (from Justin Taylor) this great little set of books for kids.  They are called Big Thoughts for Little Thinkers.  They just arrived yesterday.  We are impressed.  Amazon has a good deal where you buy 3 of the books in the set and you get the fourth for free.  The four books on on the following topics:

Salary for homemakers

Stay_at_home_mom

According to a recent study, stay-at-home moms are worth $117,000.

Kristi's Baby Shower

Today we went down to Lakeside (Yee-Haw!) for my sister-in-law's baby shower.  Tons of fun people, tons of yummy food (I finally can eat!), and tons of pink!  Kristi is expecting a girl in July.  This is the first grand daughter.  Grandma is very excited!
