Lucy's 1st Birthday

Dsc_0128

Today was my niece's 1st birthday party.  She got lots of very cute girly stuff.  Someone gave her a toy baby stroller with a baby doll.  She was so excited about it!  We have had so many boy birthday parties, it is fun to finally have a little girl in the family!  Happy Birthday, Lucy!

Dsc_0083_3This is my mom and I.  Her shirt is so cute!  She had them specially made just for Lucy's party!

Stuff Cobbs Like #21: Daniel and Danielle

51880001_4The Cobbs really like Daniel and Danielle!  We finally got to have dinner with them last night.  We definitely don't get to hang out with them as much as we would like!  These two are too much fun.  I always laugh like crazy when I am with them (even when I am overcome with nausea)!  Thanks so much for the great night and we will have to do it again when I have an appetite :-)

I have "adopted" Danielle as my little sister.  Erick and I met Danielle around 2003.  She drove me crazy when I first met her.  Bo dragged her to Kaleo (probably against her will).  She was not a Christian.  I think she kept coming back to Kaleo because she enjoyed arguing and debating everything the Bible said.  She had highlighted everything in her Bible that she did not like!  But eventually God grabbed hold of her heart and transformed her in an incredible way!  I don't think I have meet anyone so changed by the grace of God.  She has the most amazing testimony.  She has been through some immense heartache and pain growing up but now she is always on the look out for those who are hurting.  She loves to share how she has found comfort and joy in Jesus Christ.  I love Danielle!  She is so easy to share my struggles with.  She always has a listening ear, she is a great encourager, and she always makes me laugh!  God provided her with a wonderful and godly husband.  Erick and I had the privilege to do their pre-marriage counseling a few years ago.  Now they are expecting their first child this summer!  Thank you Danielle for being such a light of God's grace and mercy in our lives.  I am so blessed to have you in my life.  We are so excited to watch you and Daniel serve God together.  We love you guys!

Running Scared

Running_scared_2I have a reoccurring nightmare.  I get it about once a year and always the exact same nightmare.  My bed and floor is covered in snakes.  I wake up out of breath, panicked and covered in sweat.  Now Erick has had the same dream about snakes but it is a good dream for him.  He is frantically running around trying to catch all of the hideous creatures.  He loves reptiles but I have always gotten the he-bee gee-bees from snakes.  Other than my snake nightmare I rarely have nightmares.  EXCEPT when I am pregnant!  Whenever I am pregnant I am bombarded with the most terrifying and violent nightmares.   I realize that hormones have a big play in this, but there must also be some underlining fears.

So yesterday I started reading Running Scared by Edward Welch.  I think we originally got this book as a counseling resource because it seems that one of the most common struggles people have is anxiety.  If you really think about it, we all have fears, phobias, and anxieties.   But that is not how God has called us to live our lives.  Well this book has pulled me in immediately.  Just in the first few chapters Welch has touched on so many topics:  fear, anxiety, phobias, dreams, stress, depression, anger, superstitions, needing to be in control, and overprotection.  Wow!  I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book.  Ed Welch has also written number of other wonderful books and we have some of his counseling booklets available on the Kaleo resource table.

Modesty: God, My Heart, and Clothes

I get giddy whenever I hear that C.J. or Carolyn Mahaney have a new book coming out.  They have both been a great blessing to me.  Today on C.J.'s blog there is an excerpt from his forthcoming book called Worldliness: Resisting the Seduction of a Fallen World.

The post on his blog is titled Modesty: God, My Heart, and Clothes (part 1) click the link to read!

Check back on C.J.'s blog for more excerpts from his new book!

Modesty: The Attitude of the Modest Woman (Part 2)

Modesty:  The Appearance of the Modest Woman (Part 3)

Modesty: A Pastor's Concern (Part 4)

I also really recommend downloading Mahaney's message called "The Soul of Modesty".  Goggle search it or I have it available on Kaleo's resource table.

Another Cobb Is Coming!

Baby_nine_weeks Yes, you read that title right.  I'm pregnant!  I am 9 weeks and have a due date of November 23.  We went to see the OB doctor this week and I had an ultrasound.  He said that the baby has a good and fast heart beat and that everything looks great.  I have been a bit anxious about this pregnancy since having a miscarriage.  I think I have been having a hard time believing I am actually pregnant.  The ultrasound helped settle my disbelief.  I don't know why I didn't believe the 3 positive pregnancy tests, my primary doctor telling me I am pregnant, and the nausea everyday.  Well I guess they were all right and I am truly pregnant.  We are very excited!

We told the boys the other night.  Mason was very excited.  He said he knew I was going to have a baby (he has radar ears, he overhears everything we say).  He is pretty convinced that I am going to have a girl.  He wants to get the baby's room ready, go shopping for the baby, and come up with a name.  He has a lot of questions about babies that I am not sure I am ready to get into yet :-)  Miles wants to name the baby "Superbaby".

The extended Cobb family is growing like crazy this year.  Erick's brother Chris (aka Paco) and his wife are expecting their first child (a daughter) in July.  Erick's other brother, James and his wife are expecting twin daughters this summer. They already have a son.  So far there are 3 grandsons and soon Erick's parents will have 4 more grandkids.  What a blessing!

Mason's Tooth Pillow

Img_4162My mom is very creative and crafty.  She made this "tooth fairy pillow" for Mason to put his tooth in and then he puts it under his pillow for the "tooth fairy".  I think it is hilarious!  It looks just like our boston terrier, Hula.  You can open Hula's mouth and put the tooth inside!  I remember as a kid, my mom made my brother and I a tooth fairy pillow too.  I think my brother had a Millennium Falcon (the space ship from Star Wars).  But mom, I can't remember what my pillow was!!

Lost a Tooth!

Img_4159_2

Mason's first tooth fell out this morning!  He was eating pizza and pop, out it came.  Mason was very excited!  He was running all over the house yelling that his tooth finally came out.  He couldn't wait to tell everyone at school that his tooth came out.  I think they make a big deal about it in his class.  He has been waiting for this to happen for a long time.

Pottery Barn Outlet

Potterybarnimage_2I have been wishing that a Pottery Barn store would come to our area but this is even better!  A Pottery Barn Outlet has arrived in the Lake Elsinore Outlet Center.  My friend, Danielle Nunez gave me the heads up on their grand opening.  I was there at 9 am this morning.  There was a mob of excited shoppers waiting outside for the doors to open.  There was a ribbon cutting and then the crowd cheered and clapped.  There was even men cheering.  I was excited, but people were getting emotional.  It was kind of funny.  Anyway, the store was amazing.  It was better than I expected.  This weekend for their grand opening they had some amazing deals.  There was an additional 40% off the outlet prices of all bath stuff, kid stuff, and an additional 60% off furniture.  I bought 4 bath towels, 4 wash cloths, a bath room rug, a hooded kid's towel (for my niece) and a cute floppy stuffed bunny (also for my niece) all for $100.  This is high quality and stylish stuff so I it was a great deal.  I am looking forward to going back soon when the crowd thins out.  I was going to get my picture taken in front of the store for this blog post but I didn't want to look too silly :-)

Update on Miranda

Thank you for praying for Miranda.  Erick got a text message from her husband last night.  Bryce said that she is doing a lot better.  Praise God!  Hopefully we will get more info soon.  Keep praying.

Pray for Miranda

022_19_2Please pray for our dear friend Miranda.  She is the wife of Bryce (who I mentioned in Love That Lasts).  Yesterday she started having labor contractions and they went to the hospital.  During labor Miranda stopped breathing and her heart stopped.  They did an emergency C-section and were able to revive their newborn son.  As of last night, Bryce told Erick that Miranda is in the ICU in a medical induced coma.

Miranda had an amniotic embolism.  This is very rare and often fatal.  Part of the amniotic fluid enters the mom's blood stream and causes the mom's blood to clot and mom enters into cardiac and respiratory arrest.

Pray that Miranda will be restored to full health and strength and that God will give Bryce comfort and peace.

We love Miranda.  She is a beautiful, fun, vivacious woman that loves Jesus.

My New Ride

Dsc_0862

This is me right before I crashed on our neighbor's yard.  I have been inspired by Melissa, my neighbor.  She has been carting her 2 boys all around Murrieta in one of these.  This is about the most fun exercising I have had, and Mason and Miles think it is more fun than going to the playground.  I am pulling close to 100 pounds so I am hoping to get gigantic leg muscles!

Love that lasts

Banquet_picture_4

Erick and I at our Junior Banquet, 1991.

Today is the 18th anniversary of when Erick and I started dating.  Before I start our story I have a DisclaimerWe do not think it is wise to date in high school especially as young as we started dating.  God was merciful to us.

Our first date was to Micky Thompson Motorcross Races at the Jack Murphy Stadium (now Quallcom).  Erick was only 15 and couldn't drive yet so he had Bryce's dad and grandpa pick me up (HaHa).  So off I go with Erick, his friend Bryce, Bryce's dad and grandpa in their work van.  This must have been before there was seat belt laws because we all sat on ice chests or lawn chairs in the back of the van (there were no seats)!  I remember having a great time.  I thought Erick was hilarious!

About a year later we went to the Junior Banquet (picture above) it was like a prom without dancing (it was a baptist high school).  Doesn't Erick look very handsome!  That dress I am wearing, I made it!   I was very into sewing clothes back then.  We went to Christian High School in El Cajon.  We have lots of fun memories from those early years together.  I knew I wanted to marry Erick even back in high school.  He desired to learn more about God, he had great ambition, was a hard worker (started working at 14), was kind, and made me laugh.  Our love was immature at first but has grown deeper every year.  We continued to date (7 years) until I finished college.  I never once thought of breaking up with him.  I loved him more each year.  He was such a joy to be with!  I think it was in 1994 we started going to Grace Bible Church in Escondido.  We received the most amazing pre-marital counseling from our pastor and his wife.  He taught us about the biblical roles of a husband and wife and so much more.  It was hard but I am so thankful for their time and effort they spent on us.  After I graduated nursing school in 1997, Erick and I got married!  We have been married almost 11 years now.  Praise God!  Erick is still a joy to be with.  I am so thankful for his companionship, encouragement, and guidance.  I love you, Erick.
