Running Scared

Running_scared_2I have a reoccurring nightmare.  I get it about once a year and always the exact same nightmare.  My bed and floor is covered in snakes.  I wake up out of breath, panicked and covered in sweat.  Now Erick has had the same dream about snakes but it is a good dream for him.  He is frantically running around trying to catch all of the hideous creatures.  He loves reptiles but I have always gotten the he-bee gee-bees from snakes.  Other than my snake nightmare I rarely have nightmares.  EXCEPT when I am pregnant!  Whenever I am pregnant I am bombarded with the most terrifying and violent nightmares.   I realize that hormones have a big play in this, but there must also be some underlining fears.

So yesterday I started reading Running Scared by Edward Welch.  I think we originally got this book as a counseling resource because it seems that one of the most common struggles people have is anxiety.  If you really think about it, we all have fears, phobias, and anxieties.   But that is not how God has called us to live our lives.  Well this book has pulled me in immediately.  Just in the first few chapters Welch has touched on so many topics:  fear, anxiety, phobias, dreams, stress, depression, anger, superstitions, needing to be in control, and overprotection.  Wow!  I am looking forward to reading the rest of the book.  Ed Welch has also written number of other wonderful books and we have some of his counseling booklets available on the Kaleo resource table.
