Love that lasts

Banquet_picture_4

Erick and I at our Junior Banquet, 1991.

Today is the 18th anniversary of when Erick and I started dating.  Before I start our story I have a DisclaimerWe do not think it is wise to date in high school especially as young as we started dating.  God was merciful to us.

Our first date was to Micky Thompson Motorcross Races at the Jack Murphy Stadium (now Quallcom).  Erick was only 15 and couldn't drive yet so he had Bryce's dad and grandpa pick me up (HaHa).  So off I go with Erick, his friend Bryce, Bryce's dad and grandpa in their work van.  This must have been before there was seat belt laws because we all sat on ice chests or lawn chairs in the back of the van (there were no seats)!  I remember having a great time.  I thought Erick was hilarious!

About a year later we went to the Junior Banquet (picture above) it was like a prom without dancing (it was a baptist high school).  Doesn't Erick look very handsome!  That dress I am wearing, I made it!   I was very into sewing clothes back then.  We went to Christian High School in El Cajon.  We have lots of fun memories from those early years together.  I knew I wanted to marry Erick even back in high school.  He desired to learn more about God, he had great ambition, was a hard worker (started working at 14), was kind, and made me laugh.  Our love was immature at first but has grown deeper every year.  We continued to date (7 years) until I finished college.  I never once thought of breaking up with him.  I loved him more each year.  He was such a joy to be with!  I think it was in 1994 we started going to Grace Bible Church in Escondido.  We received the most amazing pre-marital counseling from our pastor and his wife.  He taught us about the biblical roles of a husband and wife and so much more.  It was hard but I am so thankful for their time and effort they spent on us.  After I graduated nursing school in 1997, Erick and I got married!  We have been married almost 11 years now.  Praise God!  Erick is still a joy to be with.  I am so thankful for his companionship, encouragement, and guidance.  I love you, Erick.
